The inspiration for my work comes from my fascination with both the human and natural world and striving to find the endless connection points between the two. Having previously been involved in the fashion world, I developed a love of imagery, curves, color, texture and shape. My eye is always looking for new ways to mix and combine elements that are unconventional, thought provoking and depict connectivity. I often find myself longing to be in nature where I find my still point: Witnessing and reflecting on the continuous circle of birth, life, death, decay and rebirth where the light and the dark coexist.

Life Mosaic (Patio Piece)

This unique mixed media piece was a creation from my time living, and studying and teaching art in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. As part of my deep dive into the art scene, I had the opportunity to study with the late Dee Ropers. Dee was a very talented mixed media artist who introduced and taught this way of doing mixed media. It’s both a celebration of culture and personal expression. When Dee passed I was given the honor of taking over her studio, in the famous “Fabrica la Aurora”, and continuing her popular workshops. This piece is a collaboration of both Dee and my work and is a dedication to her spirited and creative legacy.

To look at a Gilberto Romero’s sculpture is to open one’s heart to joy and grace of movement – a sense of greater connection with the natural world and its mysteries. Through his shape, line, color, and use of negative and positive space, we experience freedom, flow, a pure and playful wonderment.

Romero is a hands-on artist, completing all of his work from his studio. Even his cast work, though cast in a nearby foundry, is welded and chased by Romero. His patinas are engaging and varied, ranging from monochromatic to mottled with intricate patterns unfolding. An avid outdoorsman, Romero finds much artistic inspiration from his time in nature.  “I see shapes everywhere,” he shares, and his patient and intuitive nature help him listen as stones “speak” with the possibility of becoming part of a future piece.  Indeed, cast birds play a part in many of his pieces, conjuring for us the idea of flight, expansion, the delightful ability to soar.
